Mission Statement

St Edmund Arrowsmith School exists to provide for its pupils a high quality educational experience which draws its distinctive character from the life and teaching of Jesus, the principles of the Gospel and Catholic tradition, and also from a commitment to the faith development of our pupils. Our intention is to create a challenging and supportive learning environment within which we will provide for our pupils intellectual, spiritual, moral, personal, social and cultural development. We attach particular importance to the quality of relationships within the school community, to equality of the opprtunity, to the development of an effective working relationship with parents, the local parishes and schools, the business community, the Local Education Authority and the Archdiocesan trustees. We are committed to the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning, to raising the standards of achievement, to effectiveness in management and administration and to those processes which will enable our teachers to meet the changing needs of pupils and the high expectations of our parents. A Catholic School St Edmund Arrowsmith is first and foremost a Catholic school. 'Fortes in Fide' or 'Strength through Faith' sums up our belief that our success and unity as a school is a result of our determination to live as a community based on Gospel values. We believe that St Edmund Arrowsmith has something different to offer. We believe that we are a school that is unique and different. We believe in celebrating difference, in challenging indifference and in daring to be different. You will see that difference in:

  • Our high expectations
  • The quality of our caring
  • Our commitment to excellence
  • Our innovative approach to teaching and the embracing of new technologies
  • The richness and variety of experiences that we offer

High Expectations

We have very high expectations for all our pupils with strict standards insisted upon uniform and behaviour. We have equally high expectations for learning. We believe in the potential of all pupils to achieve and are deeply committed to developing the gifts and talents of all young people in our care.

A Caring School

We set high expectations for all our pupils but also provide a remarkably high level of support to ensure that these expectations are met. St Edmund Arrowsmith is a caring school. We pride ourselves on the way in which new pupils quickly become part of our community. We smooth the transition from Primary to Secondary school through a creative programme of teacher links, pupil visits, induction days and close liaisons with parents. Throughout a child’s time at the school we have an innovative pastoral programme to ensure the support, care and direction of each individual.

Committed to Excellence

We believe that all young people have unique and special abilities. We see it as our role to foster and develop the talents of all within our community.
We have an extremely talented and committed staff who aim to make learning enjoyable and successful. Our insistence on high standards has resulted in:

  • GCSE results improving at four times the national average
  • KS3 results graded at A and A* levels when compared to other schools.

We are committed to excellence.
